What we offer…

Ryckman Piano has a variety of musical learning opportunities available, including:

  • Private piano lessons

  • Music for Young Children

  • Ukulele Summers Program

  • What exactly are these lessons?

    Private, one-on-one weekly piano lessons are provided to students weekly, in Ryckman Piano’s home-based studio, and are either 30-minutes or 60-minutes in length.

    What would we be doing?

    These lessons involve learning about the basic makeup of a piano, music theory, some music history, rhythm, technique, recognizing and reading notes, and playing the piano.

    How much for lessons?

    • 30-minute piano lessons are currently $35/each (approximately $140/month)

    • 60-minute piano lessons are currently $50/each (approximately $200/month)

    • All lesson books, theory books, binders, and other supplies are provided by Ryckman Piano, and the one-time cost of the supplies is included on a student’s first invoice

  • Ryckman Piano will be offering Music for Young Children classes.

    What is MYC?

    Music for Young Children is a musical learning curriculum for groups, including children ages 2 up to 10 years old.

    Which MYC classes is Ryckman Piano offering, right now?

    • January 2025 dates and times TBD.

    What do I need to do as a parent?

    As a parent with a child in an MYC class, you are asked to take part in the lessons each week, and participate in the activities with your children. You may need to create an account with MYC to access the materials you will need to purchase, add your teacher as a friend, and to access any additional registration information and class details.

    Sounds great! How much are classes? And, how long are they?

    Classes are an hour in length, and are $45/class. These are paid monthly, in advance, the same as Ryckman Piano’s private lessons and Ukulele Summers groups.

    How can I register?

  • Ryckman Piano offers group ukulele classes each summer. The program is typically 6-weeks in length (1 lesson/week).

    Lessons will be approximately 60-minutes long, $45/lesson.

    What can you bring?

    Yourself, your willingness to learn, a notebook for homework, and your ukulele!

    What will you learn?

    • Basic tempo and rhythm

    • The key of C Major and its associated chords

    • Strumming and strumming rhythms

    • How to read basic sheet music and chords

    • 3-5 different songs

    What ages do you teach? Do I need any previous experience?

    Ryckman Piano welcomes all ages and stages of learning! However, please note that this program has different classes for different age groups as follows:

    **Note: the following are just class names, not the actual instrument of use. We will be using soprano and concert ukuleles for the program.**

    - Soprano Ukulele Class: Ages 4-6

    - Concert Ukulele Class: Ages 7-9

    - Tenor Ukulele Class: Ages 10-12

    - Baritone Ukulele Class: Ages 13+

    The above listed classes will only run if Ryckman Piano reaches the minimum required number (4 students/class) of students (maximum is 8 per class).

  • Ryckman Piano is offering a NEW music program starting January 17th, 2025. The program is 5-weeks in length (1 lesson/week).

    Lessons will be approximately 60-minutes long, $45/lesson.

    What can you bring?

    Yourself, your willingness to learn, a notebook for homework, and your ukulele!

    What will you learn?

    • Basic tempo and rhythm

    • Basic music theory

    • The key of C Major and its associated chords

    • Strumming and strumming rhythms

    • How to read basic sheet music and chords

    • 3-5 different songs

    • Some keyboard music

    • Some rhythm instruments, singing, and dancing

    What ages do you teach? Do I need any previous experience?

    Ryckman Piano welcomes all ages and stages of learning! And, this program is entirely meant to be a beginners’ introduction to music program. We will do games, there will be prizes, and of course, we’ll learn some music!

    However, please note that this program has different classes for different age groups as follows:

    - Fridays, 1-2pm, Ukulele Class: Ages 4-6

    - Fridays, 2-3pm, Ukulele Class: Ages 7-9

    - (After School) Fridays, 3-4pm, Ukulele Class: Ages 6-8

  • Ryckman Piano is going to be offering two different Music Camps at varying times throughout the year.

    What are the details?

    • They will be 4-week introduction to music/instrument programs.

    • One class type is for piano, and one is for the ukulele

    • Classes are weekly, 60-minutes in length, and open to all ages

    • Classes are currently $45/class, plus the cost of books/supplies (about $180-230 for the whole program)

    • There will be a maximum group size of 5 students for the piano camp, and a maximum group size of 6 students for the ukulele camp

Special Events & Programs

Special events and music programs that are hosted by, or involving, Ryckman Piano, are…

  • Recitals

    Recitals are brilliant opportunities for students to share their hard work with friends, and family!

    Recitals are hosted by Ryckman Piano, and often are in collaboration with the Creston Valley Music Teachers’ Association.

  • Focus on Youth

    Focus on Youth is a yearly Creston event where students of all creative areas are have the chance to share their talents with the Creston Valley Community. It can be music, singing, dancing, acting, poetry, art… you name it.

    This event is hosted in collaboration with the Creston Valley Music Teachers’ Association.

  • Festival of the Arts

    Festival of the Arts is a widespread competition for students to participate in where they have the chance to receive feedback from highly skilled adjudicators, aim to win prizes, and work towards provincials and onwards.

    This event is hosted in collaboration with the Creston Valley Music Teachers’ Association.

  • Music for Young Children

    Ryckman Piano’s Hannah is a Music for Young Children certified teacher, and offers group classes for various ages throughout the year.

  • Ukulele Summers: Music Program

    Ryckman Piano teaches a 6-week ukulele program each summer. The program typically runs in the months of July-August.

**Please note that Ryckman Piano is currently full and not taking new students at this time. However, you are more than welcome to pre-register by using the Waitlist Registration form, below. Please fill out one registration form per student, and sign one policy form per family.

When a new spot becomes available, whether in private lessons, Ukulele Summers, Ukulele Winters, or Music for Young Children, you will receive an email from Ryckman Piano detailing the time and lesson type available.
